Director's Corner - March 2001

As I reflect on the year 2000, I am amazed at all that CCV has accomplished. My heart is filled with thanks giving for those who contributed to our success. To all of you who gave a bit of your time, treasures, or talents, Thank You!

Your partnership has been essential in the battle as we have worked to raise community standards and change lives, one heart at a time.

What's next for CCV? This question is loaded with excitement for me, as I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year.

We plan to continue to BATTLE AT&T, taking necessary steps to stop the cable casting of The Hot Network. We began this project in the summer of 2000 and we are committed to remaining eternally vigilant.

In addition, we will continue our campaign to REMOVE SOFT CORE PORNOGRAPHY from our grocery stores and convenience marts. We have targeted four magazines which include, "Stuff for Men", "The Source", "Maxim", and "FH-2".

GREAT NEWS! Since beginning this campaign in early fall we have seen measurable success. We have had favorable responses from Yokes Grocery, Safeway, Albertson's, Zip Trip on 4th and Sullivan, Conoco on Sullivan and Chevron next door to the Double Tree Inn, also on Sullivan. Many thanks to the courageous men and women who have chosen to stand in the gap for the children in the Spokane community. Please add these stores to your list of "Family Friendly Businesses" and make sure to thank them for their choice not to carry soft-core pornography.

A TRAINING CONFERENCE is in the works for sometime in early summer. During the course of the year we became painfully aware of the lack of support groups for the individuals whose lives have been harmed by the messages in pornography. CCV is committed to providing the necessary resources for training and education. The conference will focus on the tools necessary for supporting, in small group format, the men and women who so desperately need your help. We are looking for courageous individuals in the faith community to step up to the plate to help the hidden hurting.

Do you have a broken heart for those people whose lives have been devastated by pornography or sexual abuse? Would you like to make an eternal difference by providing a measure of healing and a door of hope? If you answered 'Yes' to these questions, this conference will be of interest to you. There is so much work to be done. The "to do" list grows longer every day. However, I know by working together we can make a measurable difference in 2001.

Remember that it only takes three things to change the heart of a community: Concerned Citizens, Committed Elected Officials, and Dedicated Law Enforcement. With your help, we can continue to raise the awareness of the harms of pornography, stop the availability of harmful material to our children, and make a difference in the lives of the victims.

As you look forward to the coming year we ask that you consider renewing your partnership with us. We are excited about the changes that can happen in Spokane with your help!

Thank you again to all of our partners and volunteers. Your valuable time, talents and treasures have meant a great deal to us and to those whose lives we've been able to touch. You ALL made it possible. We look forward to working with you in the coming year.

GRACE & PEACE

Kimberly Drake
