Director's Corner - Spring/Summer 2001

CCV Spokane is beginning a new emphasis in the battle against pornography. The revised purpose and goal of our ministry is to bring healing and emotional and spiritual health to others providing them the opportunity to experience connection in those deep places of who they are. We want to touch lives with the healing power and all tenderness of the Father's heart through education, training, and demonstration.

Why are we changing our focus? Because the fight against pornography has changed. We had to ask ourselves, "What is a win?" We can close sexually oriented bookstores and regulate adult entertainment establishments, but we are unable to stop the availability of hard core material on the internet. The reality is that our children do not have to see a Playboy to be exposed to pornography.

Our culture today is saturated in sexual images and ideas. Pornography is defined as "material produced with the intent to cause arousal." Take a look at advertising, magazine covers; listen to the music in the pop culture, and don't forget television and Hollywood. We are marinated daily in sexual images and ideas. The front cover of today's Cosmopolitan is more revealing than the 1957 Playboy centerfold! This is the reality of the battle. In order for us to be effective, we must reach out and make a difference in people's lives, thus decreasing the demand for pornographic material.

OUR CURRENT FOCUS

To equip young people to discern the subtle messages of our sex saturated culture. · ·

To establish a network of trained small group leaders who have been equipped through a progressive program of education and training. · ·

To provide a measure of healing and a door of hope for those wounded by pornography, sexual addiction, and sexual trauma.

Our current focus is to provide a measure of healing and a door of hope for those wounded by pornography, sexual addiction, and sexual trauma by establishing a network of trained small group leaders who have been through a progressive program of education and training. In addition, we are providing preventive education to youth at the junior high, high school and collegiate levels in order to equip young people to discern the subtle messages of pornography in our sex saturated culture. We want to provide them with tools to make educated choices surrounding what they view and read, enabling them to make wise decisions in their association with others, thus giving them the opportunity for experiencing deep, intimate, and authentic relationships.

Let me reassure you that CCV is not giving up our mission to press for obscenity law enforcement, and encourage the passage of new local, state and federal laws. I will continue to make available my testimony in order to help municipalities at all levels pass and defend zoning and licensing laws.
For CCV to accomplish this incredible mission we must undertake an extensive education and public relations campaign.

This is where you come in. We are providing an opportunity for you to help us make a difference in lives caught up in the addiction of pornography, for those who are victims, and to provide a bright and hopeful future for the next generation. Please consider partnering with us financially. Your gift can make a difference in our homes, our churches and our community. This is a battle for lives. Ask yourself, "what is a win?" I submit, a win is a changed life, a changed heart. Please help us pursue the hearts of the hidden hurting by sending your gift today.

With God's help we hope to make a huge dent in the demand for pornography while we continue to attack the supply of this soul destroying material.

GRACE & PEACE

Kimberly Drake
